In celebration of the recent release of the Mary Kawena Pukui U.S. Mint dollar coin, join na mamo a Pukui for a special presentation honoring the life, legacy, and profound impact of one of Hawai'i's most treasured cultural icons.

Mary Kawena Pukui dedicated much of her life to the preservation and perpetuation of Hawaiian language, history, and traditions—especially hula. This unique presentation will delve into the hula lineage of Pukui through the teachings of hula expert Joseph Ilalaole, highlighting the importance of both familial and non-familial relationships in the safeguarding of hula traditions.
The event will also feature rare footage of Ilalaole himself, audio excerpts of an interview between him and Mrs. Pukui and a live performance of the Ilalaole hula tradition, bringing to life the cherished dances and knowledge passed down through generations. This one-time presentation offers a rare opportunity to experience and celebrate the enduring legacy of Pukui and the art of hula she helped preserve.
