Join us for a dynamic presentation that brings together two influential leaders — Kekuhi Kealiikanakaoleohaililani, cultural practitioner, Kumu Hula, and Hawai'i life ways professional development director of Lonoa Honua, and Dr. Kumu Michelle Manu, Coach, Author, Kumu Lua, and Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award recipient — for a profound exploration of feminine strength, spiritual intelligence, and embodied 'ike.
This 90-minute embodied workshop offers an experiential exploration of wailua through movement, breath, focused attention, and pule, guiding participants into a state of presence that honors the mana, spirit, and healing potential of na wahine koa and priestesses. Drawing from 'aiha'a, oli, hula, lua, and ritual traditions, the workshop cultivates embodied awareness, energetic modulation, and situational awareness through intentional movement practices. This session invites participants to reflect on how to elevate not only performance, but the disciplined, spiritual, and intellectual rigor of Hawaiian practice, and challenges us to recognize the multidimensional power required to sustain culture, community, and personal well-being.
Grounded in the legacy of the Merrie Monarch Festival and the enduring power of hula as a vessel of cultural resurgence, this presentation examines how wahine koa carry, cultivate, and direct mana across physical, intellectual, and metaphysical realms. Through the lens of hula, Hawaiian lua teachings, and ancestral philosophy, the presenters will explore how ancient 'ike systems inform modern wellness, self-protection, elite athleticism, and longevity.
This presentation is FREE to the public. General admission tickets are required for same-day access to our museum’s Exhibit Hall, regularly scheduled Planetarium programs and the Explorers of Lawai'a: The Quest for Hawaiian Fishing Wisdom traveling exhibit.
